The recent Hong Kong Reunion was a great success, with over 50 Sidcotians, Parents and Friends of the School attending the event at the Mira Hotel. It was a joy to see so many familiar faces attending. The earliest class in attendance was the Class of 1982 and the most recent was the Class of 2018, so a great spread of year groups were present.

We would like to offer a special thanks to current parent, Alex Wassermann and the hotel team, for really going above and beyond with the menu and for all their support with hosting the event. When it became evident that our numbers may rise for the evening, the hotel accommodated us in the ballroom and as you will see from the pictures below the decor and the table settings were stunning. The catering was applauded as “delicious” too!

The evening had a real buzz about it, with Amandine Smilevich (Head of Boarding) and Joy Cheung (International Relations Manager & Maths Teacher) as our enthusiastic hosts. There was plenty of reminiscing from everyone about life in the Sidcot boarding houses, from past musical preferences, to bedroom placement. There was much amusement when the boys from 2014 and the girls from 2018 realised they had been allocated the same rooms from Corridor D in School House Girls and School House Boys (on separate years). Historically, these rooms are interchangeable between the two houses, depending on the numbers and demand for each year group.

It was a truly international affair with Somerset-based Zoom appearances from Deputy Head (Pastoral) Jo Leite, current students Caitlin Taylor and Tomtom Lloyd, and Sarah Simms, Marketing and Development Director, who shared details of an update to our current Sixth Form transformation with all our guests. I also popped up to remind everyone to sign up to our bespoke alumni platform www.sidcotiansconnect.org.uk. Thank you to those of you who have signed up since.

The feedback from everyone was that they would like to make it an annual event if possible.

There were some additional local meet up’s with Amandine and Joy, for those Sidcotians who had been unable to attend on the night. Vincent So (S:2008 – 2018) even made an appearance at the airport to say goodbye to Amandine – a lovely farewell.

Many thanks to everyone who attended and to the Mira Hotel team for helping to make our 2022 Sidcotian Hong Kong Reunion such a special occasion.
