About the Sidcot Education Trust

The Sidcot Education Trust (previously the Sidcot Old Scholars' Association Education Trust) was set up in June 1927, initially to hold, invest and grow the Life Membership Fund (subscriptions paid by SOSA members) for the educational advancement and benefit of past and present Scholars. Over time, the Sidcot Old Scholars’ Association has disbanded, though the assets of the Trust have continued to grow.

The Trust supports a student bursary within the School, and also funds a number of Travel Scholarships, awarded annually to several students to help them with the costs of travel after leaving School. Projects supported include charitable, conservation or career-enhancing work to make a positive change.

Impact:

In addition to the annual Travel Awards, the Sidcot Education Trust has also purchased and installed essential meteorological equipment at the School, bought musical instruments and a flexible learning pod, and most recently, provided a substantial gift of £15,000 towards the new Wellbeing Hub at Rose Cottage. All of this is possible due to generous legators including Michael Garrod (Sidcot 1939-46) and donors including Laurie and David Gardner (Sidcot 1963-68). During 2023 SET made a significant contribution to the Science Lab refurbishment thanks to a generous legacy received from Sidcotian Dorothy Thomson (nee Woolley) (S: 1936 - 1943).

“The Travel Award has given me a once in a lifetime experience.
Supporting a cause that I care strongly about.
Freedom to decide where to go and what to do.
Having people believing in your decisions and donating money to the Travel Award in good faith that it will be used properly was very humbling.

It taught me to be independent - travelling alone and meeting new people - and I recommend it wholeheartedly to everyone!”

Maya, recipient of the Travel Scholarship from the Sidcot Education Trust, 2019
