Sidcot Memories

We were recently delighted to welcome two very special visitors to the School: the granddaughter and great-granddaughter of former pupils Allan and Marion Baker, who met at Sidcot. They visited to share fascinating stories about their family's connection to the School and to tell us about their grandfather, who attended the School in the late 1890s and was a keen contributor to (and in his final year, Editor of) The Island, the School magazine.

During their visit, we enjoyed looking through photographs and sharing memories of the School's past. The granddaughter, Mary-Jo Darrah, brought with her a collection of carefully preserved copies of The Island (then titled The Sidcot Times), featuring her grandfather's writings and illustrations that were published in the magazine. She generously donated these valuable historical records to the School, helping to preserve an important part of our heritage for future generations.

These documents will be carefully preserved in our archives, where they can be viewed on request to the Alumni Office. They will offer students and staff a unique glimpse into School life more than a century ago.

Graham Hartley, Maths Teacher, also gave our visitors a tour of the School grounds, highlighting how the School has evolved over the years while sharing some of its rich history.

It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our heritage and to hear first-hand how the School has remained an important part of family life across generations. We are extremely grateful to our visitors for sharing these treasured memories and helping us preserve an important piece of the School's history.

Should you have any historic documents that you would like to entrust to the School, please don't hesitate to contact us in the Alumni Office.
