Reported Deaths |
Josie Pugsley writes: "My uncle David died on Saturday 15th March 2025 in Adelaide, Australia. He is survived by his wife Sandy, two daughters Sally and Joanna, and six grandchildren.
The article below was published in a SOSA Annual Report some years ago and gives a lovely recount of his experiences:"
An Aussie Doctor, by David Pugsley
My route to a medical career wasn't a planned one. I obtained enough marks at A Level to gain a place at Bristol University to read Law. However, after serving the Friends Ambulance Unit International Services, which involved quite a bit of time working at low level jobs in public hospitals, I persuaded Bristol to allow me to read Medicine instead. I trained as a Physician, more as a result of circumstance than choice, eventually became a Nephrologist with a special interest in the Renal Disease that is so prevalent in developing countries.
While training I was privileged to be able to spend two very happy years working in Uganda at a time when a lot of resources were being put into what was once a British protectorate. Both of our children were born there. My family emigrated to Adelaide, South Australia in 1976 and settled very happily.
